[...] The post I wrote about Sonia Sotomayor after she was nominated for the Supreme Court pointed out that she has Type 1 diabetes, just like me. Sotomayor’s nomination was approved by the Senate yesterday, and she’ll be sworn in tomorrow — the first Supreme Court Justice with juvenile diabetes! [...]

Merle's right--anyone who's lived with Type 1 for decades is a survivor, and somebody I'd bet on in a tough spot. Beth, Merle, Sonia--and all you type 1s out there--you're hero(in)es in my book.

Wow! I too had no idea of Judge Sotomayor's type 1 Diabetes! I'm sure that if she gets confirmed, she will be a great roll model/inspiration to others.

Beth - Judge Sotomayor and I share the fact that we have both lived with Type 1 diabetes 46 years! As you know, diabetes management was prehistoric back then so we are ALL survivors. She may be a role model to many but surely YOU are my personal HEROINE! Love Merle

Beth I had no idea! I already thought she'd make a great Supreme Court Justice, but I had no idea she had accomplished so much while coping with diabetes Type 1. Now I really admire her and know that she can do anything. Most people don't really understand what a big deal diabetes 1 is -- they just think that insulin solves the whole problem, but it takes an enormous amount of discipline and determination to live with this disease and I'm so glad you wrote about her from this angle. Thanks for all the information and facts. I know how much you've done in spite of diabetes and now I know about Justice Sotomayor too.

Another good opportunity for people to learn about living with Type 1 diabetes through Ms Sotomayor. I thought she was tough even before I found out about her diabetes!
